The Finance Department is responsible for the management of all financial functions of the City including annual budget preparation, payroll, and audit preparation. It is responsible for guarding the financial stability of the City through sound financial policies and practices. It provides complete and accurate financial information and support services for the City Council and City staff.

Audit Information
Each year an audit of the financial records of the City of Le Sueur is performed by an independent auditor as required by Minnesota Statutes. The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is part of that process. The CAFR provides the City Council, City staff, citizens, bondholders, and other interested parties with useful information concerning the City's operations and financial position.

Budget Information
The annual proposed Budget is considered by the City Council from September through December. As required by State law, the maximum proposed property tax levy is set by September 30. The Council will recommend modifications to the proposed budget prior to final approval.

The City Council holds a public comment hearing on the proposed budget in December. The City Council adopts a final budget and final property tax levy following the public comment hearing. The final property tax levy must be certified no later than December 30, as required by State law.

Credit Rating
Standard and Poor has recently upgraded the City of Le Sueur's overall credit rating from "A" to "AA-". This is based upon several factors, which are addressed in the supporting documentation, below.
